Attestation services
The High Commission extends attestation services to the expatriate Bangladeshi applicants. The High Commission is rendering attestation services for the documents like Power of Attorney, birth certificate, passport, driving licence, marriage certificate etc. For attestation of power of attorney, the applicant must sign on the document before the concerned officer of the Mission. In the case of notarized document, the applicant may not be present in the mission in person.

Application for Attestation of any legal document/s (power of attorney/drivers license/educational certificates/company incorporation certificates/individual's alive certificate etc.) must be submitted in the prescribed form (available on this website).
For attestation of Power of Attorney (POA), please enclose 02 (two) passport size photo of the POA Giver and one same size photo of the POA Receiver on top of the document.
The original or copy of the land/property ownership document/record should be produced before the consular officer of the High Commission in case of attestation of Power of Attorney (POA).
Please enclose all relevant documents that require attestation. Legal documents such as Power of Attorney (POA) have to be notarized by a Canadian Notary Public if sent by mail. However, it is not necessary in case the applicant is present physically to sign the document before the consular officer.
Canadian documents such as company incorporation certificate, educational certificate etc. will require prior attestation from the Foreign Ministry (currently known as Global Affairs Canada).
To obtain attestation of any Bangladesh-originated document such as educational certificate, marriage certificate or birth certificate, etc., the applicant is required to obtain prior attestation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka.
Please also enclose one set of photocopy of the document to be attested for official use. Non-submission of the photocopy of the documents will lead to the pending of the attestation.
URGENT: please enclose the photocopy of your valid Bangladesh passport along with the application form.
Please note that your fees/charges vary according to your choice of service priority (Regular or Urgent). For details of the fees, please see the table at the bottom of this page.
Please attach the required fees in the form of Bank Draft or Postal Money Order. For details of fees, please see the relevant section of this website. Please note that no cash or any personal cheque is acceptable. All fees should be paid by bank draft or postal order only in favour of “Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa, Canada”. The applicant can also pay those fees by Credit/ Debit Card at the High Commission office if he/she visits the High Commission.
If you are sending your application by mail, please use the guaranteed or registered or express mail. Ordinary mail sometimes gets lost or occurs delay. Please also enclose a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postal stamps to return by registered or guaranteed or express post.
We do not accept applications by Courier (FedEx, DHL, etc.).
Please sign the application with place and date.
Please note: Incomplete form will not be processed and the High Commission will not be held responsible for such application.
Certificate for Driver's License:
Please duly fill in prescribed form with one copy of passport-size photograph. The original driver's license issued from Bangladesh has to be enclosed. Attach the necessary bank draft/money order. Also, provide a pre-paid express post envelope having a detailed address of the recipient. The Mission issues a certificate against the submitted Bangladeshi Driver's License upon receipt of its authenticity from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
Police Certificate:
The applicant needs to directly apply to his/her local Police Station/ Police Commissioner's Office (in case of the Metropolitan area) in Bangladesh to obtain a Police Certificate. Please note that the High Commission does not forward any application to Bangladesh in this regard. Applicant HIMSELF/HERSELF has to send the application to Bangladesh along with a copy of his/her Bangladesh passport attested from Bangladesh High Commission.
Birth Registration Certificate:
Online Birth Registration:
Bangladeshi expatriates and their children (wherever be born), are eligible to have online birth registration from Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa, Canada. For registration, applicants are requested to apply clicking on www.bris.lgd.gov.bd/pub/. After completing the process, the applicant requires to take a printed copy for submission in the mission.
Kindly note that applicants having birth registration certificates that are not available online can apply for registration again. For checking of online availability of exiting registration, applicants can click on www.bris.lgd.gov.bd/pub/ and can follow the steps mentioned below.
Required Documents for Birth Registration:
1) A printed copy of the online application
2) One 45 mm X 35 mm size photo
3) A Photocopy of Bangladeshi Passport ( Pages containing personal information) / Bangladeshi Birth Registration certificate/ Secondary School Certificate (SSC)/ NID/ Hospital’s documents on birth ( in the case of Bangladeshi born applicants)
4) A return envelope with the applicant’s address
Bangladeshi Parent’s Child Born in Abroad:
1) A print copy of the online application
2) One 45 mm X 35 mm size photo
3) A Photocopy of parent’s Bangladeshi passport (Pages containing personal information) / Bangladeshi Birth Registration Certificate/ Secondary School Certificate (SSC)/ NID/ Hospital’s documents on birth A copy of the Birth Certificate issued by the Country of Birth
4) A return envelope with the applicant’s address
Fees :
CAN$10.00 Payable to Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa, Canada in the form of Bank Draft/Pay Order/ Postal Order. The applicants submitting the application in person can pay the said amount by Debit/ Credit Card.

'Alive Certificate':
Bangladeshi citizens willing to obtain 'Alive Certificate', have to apply through the same form used for Attestation. They need to submit the following documents along with a filled-in application with photo:
1. S/he should come physically to the High Commission.
2. In case s/he is physically unable to come to the High Commission, a medical statement from a practicing/family physician has to be submitted.
3. Copy of Bangladesh passport.
4. Required fees (Urgent CAD 60.00 / Regular CAD 40.00).
